Used Tires

A common process in Earthships, building with discarded tires and rammed earth is an excellent environmentally friendly building technique.
Such walls are excellent in most respects, but labor intensive to build.

Each year, nearly 300 million tires are disposed of in the U.S. alone. The EPA estimates that markets exist for approximately 80 percent of those tires, leaving an estimated 60 million scrap tires to be stockpiled or landfilled.- Earthship.com

  • Recycles used tires.
  • Minimal environmental impact during construction.
  • Excellent thermal mass.
  • Very durable.
  • Very cheap.
  • Very simple to build.
