Swales & water tables

Water can be stored in your soil. If you manage to saturate your soil, the excess water will eventually start feeding your local water tables and improve the landscape.
Much rainfall flows across the surface rather than seeping in to the earth. Swales and other similar Permaculture techniques can be used to slow this surface flow and give it time to hydrate the soil.
